When Serra’s Ian Josephson launched the first pitch of Tuesday’s game over the center field fence at Fairmont Field, it looked like the Padres and St. Ignatius Wildcats would be in for another shootout.
It was a rare sunny day in Pacifica, with no fog or marine layer to dampen two offenses that had combined for 15 runs three days earlier.
But Richie Calderon and Davis Minton coaxed flyout after flyout, and Serra escaped with a 1-0 win and rivalry sweep by holding the Wildcats to just three hits, none of which left the infield.
