It’s the final week of the regular season in the CCS and NCS, and it’s another chance for Bay Preps Insider readers to choose what game they want covered!
Vote at the Google Form linked here between nine different games, almost all of which have league championships, playoff berths or rivalry trophies on the line. Voting closes at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Capuchino visits King’s Academy with the PAL De Anza title on the line. The Mustangs, who beat Burlingame Saturday, would clinch the outright crown with a win. TKA would share the league title and clinch a playoff berth with a win. A loss likely ends the Knights’ season.
Carlmont visits Sequoia for the Terremere Trophy. After stunning San Mateo in overtime, Sequoia is also playing for the outright PAL Ocean title. The Ravens, winners of five straight games after starting the season 0-4, lead the all-time series 35-33-1. If Carlmont wins, Sequoia and San Mateo would split the league crown, and the Scots would have a solid chance at an at-large playoff berth.
Leigh travels to Branham in one of San Jose’s biggest rivalries. The Longhorns will need a win and some help to reach the playoffs.
Livermore heads to crosstown rival Granada for the outright EBAL Valley Division title.
Menlo makes the half-mile trip to Sacred Heart Prep for Valparaiso Bowl XXII. The Gators own a 13-8 lead in the series, but likely need a win to reach the postseason. Monterey County football guru Chris Anderson currently projects the Gators as the first team out for an at-large bid in his CCS Playoff Projections. Should SHP lose, it’ll be an uncomfortable wait for Sunday’s seeding meeting.
Menlo-Atherton heads to Wilcox with PAL Bay championship implications. A Chargers win gives Wilcox no worse than a share of the title after last Friday’s stunning win at Los Gatos. With M-A’s loss at SHP on Saturday, Los Gatos will find itself cheering for the Bears. If the Wildcats beat Palo Alto and M-A beats the Chargers, Los Gatos will be the outright PAL Bay champion.
In a game filled with Division I recruits, San Ramon Valley travels to Monte Vista for Danville supremacy and the Jim Geldermann Perpetual Trophy. The trophy has been with the Wolves since 2017, though Monte Vista did beat SRV in an NCS Division I Quarterfinal in 2019.
St. Ignatius takes the trip to Foothill College for Mitty’s Senior Night. If the Wildcats win, they’ll still be alive in the WCAL title race and could split the crown if St. Francis loses at Riordan on Saturday. Mitty needs a win and a Bellarmine upset win at St. Francis to qualify for the postseason. A Monarch win would give St. Francis the outright league title before even taking the field this week.
Valley Christian will head up to San Mateo for Serra’s Senior Night and the Padres’ lone annual home night game. Serra is trying to avoid ending the regular season with a losing record for the first time since 2005.
For those curious, the calpreps.com projections show the Battle for the Terremere Trophy, Valparaiso Bowl XXII, Valley Christian @ Serra and Livermore @ Granada as the closest games. CalPreps actually projects Carlmont to upset the Ravens, 27-22. By computer projections, the closest game of all is expected to be at Brady Family Stadium, a 19-17 Serra win.
Saturday’s Bay Preps Insider coverage will start with the 97th Little Big Game. San Mateo ended a 13-year losing streak to Burlingame last season. Bay Preps Insider will also be at Mayer Family Field as Riordan hosts St. Francis for Senior Day.
